If you are involved in customer services or the caring profession this training package is for you. The Disability Discrimination Act makes it unlawful to discriminate against a person because of their disability. Our Visually Impairment Awareness Training Course (OCN) will give staff the skills and knowledge to deliver services which are accessible and inclusive for visually impaired people.
The course is suitable for the following staff:
- Caring and support staff in residential homes and day centres;
- Educational staff;
- Sales staff and local authority workers;
- Nursing and auxiliary staff;
The Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the course the learner will be able to:
- Understand visual impairment ;
- Understand how VI people can travel safely and efficiently;
- Describe different methods of communication;
- Understand how VI people may overcome problems with daily living;
- Describe the technology available to help VI people;
- Describe benefits and services.
The Course:
The Course is ten hours in length, comprising :
- A seven hour, one day training session
- Three hours work-based private study, where a small project is completed under supervision
About Accreditation:
The OCN awards credits to recognise a learner’s achievements.
The Visual Impairment Awareness course is delivered at Level One, one credit, which is comparable to NVQ1.
