‘Being a part of it all’ Hull’s strategy for older people and their families 2008-2011
The strategy sets out commitments made by public services and others to assist older people and their families to find solutions to everyday needs. The action plan is more specific, it looks at each commitment and sets out what carrying out the commitment will mean in practice. It will be regularly updated as some actions are completed and new ones added. The action plan does stress that it probably understates the significance of the voluntary and community sector to delivering action. Hopefully future reviews will raise the sectors importance.
Actions come under the headings of:
- Assist and enable older people to improve their health and well being
- Assist and enable older people to improve their quality of life
- Assist and enable older people to make a positive contribution to their local community
- Assist and enable older people to increase the choice and control they have in their lives
- Combat the discrimination that older people may experience
- Assist and enable older people to improve their economic well being
- Assist and enable older people to maintain their security, dignity and respect
- Lead and manage services for older people effectively
- Commission and deliver services that are of a high standard and give value for money
