Extra Care Housing Survey
Hull City Council are currently planning Extra Care Housing developments for the city, and Hull LINk would like to collect people’s views about what they would want from this type of housing.
What is Extra Care Housing?
- A type of housing designed to meet the needs of older people and working age people with disabilities and mental health problems.
- Unlike residential care homes it provides people with their own individual home which they may rent or own, making it easier for people to remain independent and part of their social networks.
- Often in the form of flats or bungalows the housing is designed or adapted to meet the ongoing and changing support needs of the resident.
- Unlike traditional sheltered housing, access to care and support is available 24 hours a day either on site or by call. Also a range of other services which will be provided on site or available nearby (such as a restaurant).
So that we can ensure the Councils plans represent the views of LINk members and in turn the residents of Hull, we are asking members to complete a short survey.
We will collate the information from this survey and present it to Hull City Council. This will then form part of the Council’s design of the Extra Care Housing developments that are being planned for Hull.
The survey will take just 5 minutes to complete and will enable you to have your say on they type housing that will be available to you later in life.
Why you should give your views
- It is an issue that could potentially affect us all, either directly later in life, or through a friend or relative that is requiring increased care.
- Without people’s real life experiences and views, we cannot truly gain an idea of what it is people want from their housing.
- For such a large investment, it is important the housing meets the actual needs of Hull’s residents.
- One of the key benefits of extra care housing is that it allows residents to stay in their own home for longer, as opposed to needing to go in to residential care. By having your say now, you will be shaping your future and ensuring the right options are there for you later in life.
Even if Extra Care Housing is not something you would consider for yourself, your views based on what you would like to see available for a friend or relative are just as important.
This is a real opportunity for people to have their say and influence the design of services right from the beginning.
To share your views please complete and return the attached survey.
