Hull and East Yorkshire are getting ‘excellent’ services

Humber Mental Health Teaching NHS Trust, which provides mental health, learning disability and addictions services across Hull and East Yorkshire, has been rated ‘Excellent’ for the quality of the services it provides for patients.  The assessment was made by the NHS watchdog, the Healthcare Commission, in its annual health check rating.

The trust’s rating is a huge improvement on last year’s score of ‘fair’ and puts the Trust amongst the highest performing trusts in the country.

The assessment covers issues such as the safety of patients, waiting times, and patient satisfaction with services.  The trust was also rated ‘Good’ in its use of resources for the second year running.  This measures how well the trust manages its finances.

The Healthcare Commission report said that based on the assessment the Trust had made significant improvements since last year.

David Snowdon, Chief Executive at Humber Mental Health said “I am absolutely delighted with the Annual Health Check rating that we have achieved this year.  I am particularly pleased with the outstanding improvement that has been made in achieving a rating of excellent for the quality of clinical care.  To move from last year’s rating of fair to excellent within a 12 month period demonstrates the outstanding work and commitment that staff employed within the Trust and volunteers who support them, have undertaken in that period.

On behalf of the Board, I would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation for that support and commitment and we look forward to improving our position in support of our Foundation Trust application.”

Jane Fenwick, Trust Chairman, said “The Board welcomes the Healthcare Commission’s rating which shows a real improvement and demonstrates to local people that patient care is our priority.

It is important that local people are informed about the quality of their health service and these ratings are a good place to start.  The next step is to become a member of our Trust.  Anyone who lives locally can become a member for free.  Membership enables anyone with an interest in our services to support us, find out more, and help us to make improvements.  Anyone interested should visit www.humber.nhs.uk or ring 0800 915 5064.”
