Hull Royal Infirmary on red alert
Patients urged to attend only in real emergencies
Hull Royal Infirmary is currently experiencing an extremely high volume of patient attendances. Health managers in the region are asking patients who are unwell to think carefully about their options and only to attend if their problem is a real emergency.
The hospital has been placed on red alert, indicating a very high level of patient pressures.
Health managers are encouraging local residents to make use of alternative services, such as Minor Injuries Units, pharmacies and NHS Direct, wherever possible.
A spokesperson for the local NHS says:
“We are experiencing a period of unusually high demand and staff are working as hard as they can to see and treat patients. However, during such an intense period, we are reliant upon patients making sensible choices and only attending hospital if they have a real emergency.”
