Humber Mental Health becomes Humber NHS Foundation Trust

Humber Mental Health Teaching NHS Trust today became the first trust in our area to be authorised as a Foundation Trust.

The Trust provides mental health, learning disability and addictions services to people in Hull and the East Riding. It was authorised by Monitor, the independent regulator of Foundation Trusts.

David Snowdon, chief executive of Humber NHS Foundation Trust (as it will now be called) is delighted that years of hard work have come to fruition. ‘This is a big day for our Trust and for the people who use our services,’ he said.

‘Being a Foundation Trust will mean that we will have the freedom to provide services in the way we think is best for local people. And through our members and our Governors’ Assembly, the public and our service users and carers will have the chance to get more involved and have a voice in how we deliver mental health, learning disability and addictions services.’

NHS foundation trusts are not-for-profit, public benefit corporations. They are part of the NHS and provide and develop healthcare according to core NHS principles: free care, based on need and not ability to pay.
