Is your child protected?

Extra immunisation clinics have been set up for children who have missed any of their routine childhood vaccinations.

Kathleen Young, Nurse Consultant for NHS Hull, says:

“Our ongoing immunisation programme means that, when children become eligible for a particular vaccination, their GP sends them an invitation to come to the surgery and have the vaccine. Most parents attend their family GP practice for their child’s vaccinations as soon as they receive their invitation.

“Not everyone can attend at the time though, and sometimes it gets forgotten about altogether. This can leave a child at risk of contracting a number of serious childhood diseases. Even if your child is missing only one of a course of vaccinations, they are not protected from that disease so it is vital that parents ensure their child’s vaccination programme is up to date as soon as possible.

“To protect Hull’s children from such diseases, which include measles, polio and meningitis C, we have arranged a number of extra clinics at health centres across the city. If you think your child has missed one or more vaccinations, please get in touch with our Child Health Team to make an appointment and get your child’s vaccinations up to date.

Childhood immunisation offers significant protection against a range of serious diseases, whilst those children who haven’t been vaccinated are at much greater risk.

Extra vaccination clinics take place this month as follows:

Thursday 11 March, Clarendon Health Centre

Friday 12 March, Westbourne NHS Centre

Friday 12 March, Newington Health Care Centre

Tuesday 16 March, Marmaduke Health Centre

Wednesday 17 March, Alexandra Health Care Centre.

To make an appointment, please contact the Child Health Team on 01482 617953 or 617784. Parents who have any questions regarding childhood vaccinations should speak to their GP or Health Visitor.
