Extra Care Housing is a type of housing that, unlike nursing or residential homes, enables people to retain the independence of being in their own home but with the added care and facilities available to support their needs.

Hull City Council is developing an Extra Care Housing Strategy for the city that will see the number of Extra Care places in the city increase from 40 to 2000 over the next 10 years. Hull City Council wanted to collect local people’s views about what the housing should look like so that the final developments would meet the needs and aspirations of the people that are going to be living in them.  Therefore it was for this reason that Hull LINk was asked to conduct a consultation with members of the public to gather their views on the housing.

A report containing the findings from this consultation has now been submitted to Hull City Council. Some of the points raised in the consultation have already been incorporated in the the Council’s design specifications and others are being fed into further discussions.
